Dr. Helmut Roehrig
The Cathedral Concert Series and Musica Sacra go "way back"! Founder of this Concert Series and the Founder of Musica Sacra Chorus became friends and colleagues here at the Cathedral Basilica.

Helmut Roehrig and Robert Schaffer both admired and respected each other, and became close personally very soon after they first met, when Helmut became an associate organist at the Cathedral.

Robert played the organ and directed the choir for Helmut's and Evelyn's wedding in 1963. The story goes that moments prior to the wedding processional, Helmut paid a visit to the choir room with last-minute instructions for Robert. Bob, being the director and Helmut's close friend, quickly showed Helmut the choir room door which led towards the forming procession. The rest, as they say, is history. Helmut and Robert remained close friends throughout their lives.
I and my entire family (many have passed) -- as well as the thousands of patrons of this concert series over a period of decades -- have shared a friendship and profound musical bond not only with Helmut, but with all of the wonderful people in (and associated with) the Musica Sacra Chorus, past and present.

We are honored to have known Helmut, and thrilled to continue this unique artistic collaboration with Dr. L. Brett Scott and Musica Sacra.
